How Santa spreads the presents

Today Tracey, Olivia, Bree and I made a movie about christmas. We really enjoyed making it because we got to act out the characters. The movie is about how santa spreads the presents and how the elves make the presents. We made it for fun and in our class we were having a christmas wonderland challenge. Bree was Rudolph, Tracey was Santa, Olivia an elf and a reindeer and I was the same as Olivia. We all had turns at filming.

Nga Rakau Triathlon Reflection

Reflection for Nga Rakau Triathlon

· Something I was pleased with was that I crossed the finish line with a smile on my face because I knew that I had finished.       

· I really enjoyed learning how hard it actually was to do 4 lengths of the pool after you have done a bike because I was on gear 6 and it was really hard so my legs had to work hard.

· Something I found hard was running with a sore knee and calf muscle.

· Something that made me think was what place I was coming in the race because I wanted to make my family proud.                  

· Something I want to get better at is swimming when I am puffed.

         What can I do about it?

Work harder at swimming lessons so I can swim more iffitiontly.

I am really proud of myself because I tried my best and I did not give up when I was running with a sore calf Muscle and a sore Knee. I ended up coming 5th.

Last week, Bree, Olivia, Lily and I made a trailer on the book that our class has been reading, Joey Pigza swallowed the Key. I was Mrs Maxy, Bree was Joey, Olivia was Mum and Lily was the filmer and the Principal. I really enjoyed making the trailer because I think that the book is really funny so we get to have some fun making it and being not our normal selves.

Praying Mantis Everywhere

After Volleyball on Thursday afternoon, Dad and I were digging in the garden, pruning the tomatoes when we came across a praying mantis home. I know that you might be thinking that it is not that exciting but I found it really exciting because the baby praying mantises were hatching out of their eggs. I looked and saw them and I thought. that is a big egg for so little amount of praying mantis but I looked around the pole and they were EVERYWHERE.

Question/Goal/ problem

What shape of container will hold the most weight ?

Hypothesis (The shape I have chosen and why I think it is the best shape)

Olivia and I have chosen a pan shape because we think that if it is spread out it will float better and we can fit heaps in it.

Materials

Container filled with water, modelling clay, old coins

Method (What I did)

Create a boat out of modelling clay.

Fill the container with water.

Place the boat carefully onto the water so it floats.

One at a time , put coins carefully into the boat . Count how many coins are in the boat before it sinks.

Observation/ Analyse (What happened and why I think it happened)

Our creation floated and carried seven coins because it was spread out and light. It was also big so it could carry more coins.

Conclusion  (What I discovered about floating/ sinking )

I found out the a piece of paper could float and carry 5 coins because when Mr Ford put the coins in the middle it was pushing the middle down and making the sides float.

Does air have weight?

Equipment:

• Ruler
• Table
• Person to Karate chop
• 2 pieces of News paper

Prediction:

I think that air has no weight because we can’t feel it on us and if you are looking at some scales with nothing but air on it, the scales say it weighs nothing.

What happened:

When Ollie Karate chopped the ruler and it went flying. Mr M scrunched up a piece of newspaper and put it on the end of the ruler which is on the table then Ollie Karate chopped it again. The paper went flying and the ruler went not so far. Next we put the paper on the the ruler flat with no air under it then Ollie karate chopped the ruler and the ruler snapped because of the weight of the air pushing on the paper.

We tried it again and no one could snap it apart from Mr Moriarty. When we had all tried Mr Moriarty decided that he would have a go so we made the paper nice and flat with no air under the paper and the ruler was more than half on the table. Mr Moriarty karate chopped it and the ruler snapped! We were all so excited. "Just a little bit of blood." Mr M said.
I was wrong after all:-(

Back Flip

When I got home from school on Friday me and dad went onto the tramp and my dad was teaching me how to do a back flip and land it. After 5 failed attempts I got it. I showed mum and she suggested that I video it and post it on my blog so I am.

We have just finished reading the book Hatchet in our Literacy Circle groups and it was a really good book. I really enjoyed it. Since we have finished reading it I decided to make a photo story on it the uploaded it to vimeo showing all of the activities that we had to do on the chapters.

Smokey the baby Dragon

Description on Smokey

My sentences:

Simple sentence:

The baby dragon has a curled tail.

Compound sentence:

The baby dragon is sitting on my fingertips while he is breathing smoke.

Complex sentence:

The baby dragon twitched his wings as if he was itchy.

The baby dragon

The baby dragon is sitting on my fingertips while breathing out smoke. The smoke is making the room feel like the oxygen is going away and the whole room is filling with smoke and it is becoming hard to breathe. The baby dragon is just sitting there with his tail curled around my fingertips. I have decided to name him Smokey. I think that he likes his name because Smokey lifts his head and turns his head to me like he has a smile upon his face whenever I call his name. 

Smokey started to twitch his wings as if he was itchy. His wings look very thin as if they were very delicate and very easy to snap. I was just sitting there with Smokey on my fingers when a fly comes and sits right next to him. Smokey is only about the size of five flies all put together. I never realised that Smokey was that small. My baby dragon is lying upon my fingers when he starts to flap his wings as if he was going to fly away. But then he decides not to. Smokey looks up at me and he has a sort of look on his face like he is getting sleepy because he has droopy eyes. So he goes to sleep in the warm sun that is shining on my fingers. 

Smokey falls asleep just lying there, then his head all of a sudden, flops to the side and I feel like my heart just skipped a heartbeat. As soon as his head flops to the side and I automatically think that he is going to fall off my fingers and die. 
"Phew," I say with relief. I caught Smokey in my other hand. Smokey is still asleep so I carefully lift him into his bed and goes to sleep there. "Sweet dreams Smokey," I whisper as I tiptoe away.

My 5 sentence story

Then we had an option of:

• Um

“Quick, pass the ball to me,” I call.

“Stand in the circle,” yells Olivia.

“Out of the way, I'm trying to shoot the ball in the hoop,” I say to Katie who is defending.

Suddenly, I get the ball into the hoop.

“Oww, the ball hit me in the face," I said.

Converting to Decimal and Fraction Answers

In the holidays, in my spare time I have been finishing some maths that we have been doing at school. What we have been doing is Miss Hill has been giving us some fractions and that would be our problem. We had to add them together and find the decimal answer and the fraction answer.

The night that Reece Mastin was on X Factor

On Monday night, I saw something that was so awesome. I watched Reece Mastin preform on the X Factor. If you know me, I am a total Reece Mastin fan.

The Tower of Hanoi

This puzzle was invented in 1883 by the French mathematician Edouard Lucas.
The aim of the puzzle is to mover the tower to another rod. here are the rules:

• You may only move one disc at a time
• You may not place a larger disc on top of a smaller disc

1. What is the fewest number of moves it would take to solve the puzzle?

How I worked it out is:

Since there are 4 levels on the tower, it will take 15 moves to move the whole tower to another rod.

    2.  What is the fewest number of moves it would take to solve the puzzle if there were 9 discs in             the tower?

How I worked it out is:
I worked out the pattern. Every time you add a level to the tower it makes you have to use more moves to get them back into order and on another rod.
Pattern is:  Each time you add a level the tower, to get the final amount of moves you have to double the previous amount of moves then add one more move to the answer.

This is how I worked out how many moves it would take:

• 1 level - 1 move
• 2 level - 3 moves
• 3 level - 7 moves
• 4 level - 15 moves
• 5 level - 31 moves
• 6 level - 63 moves
• 7 level - 127 moves
• 8 level - 255 moves
• 9 level - 511 moves

So it will take 511 moves to get the whole tower to another rod if there were 9 levels on it.

Hannah's Walkathon Reflection

Reflection for The Walkathon

(My team name: Leopards)

· Something I was pleased with was that my team worked together really well like when we were encouraging each other because it was quite a long way for us while we were walking.

· I really enjoyed learning different things about my group because some of the people I don’t know that much about.

· Something I found hard was thinking of a chant for our group because we had to rhyme the words.

· Something that made me think was how much time we spent walking all together because a full hour is 60 minutes and it is kind of different adding up the time. In the end we spent 1 hour and 18 minutes walking.

· Something I want to get better at is walking faster with my group and encouraging my team more.

What can I do about it?

I can encourage others more like when we are at a triathlon or something like that.

My Ipod Poem

My Ipod By Hannah Hansen

I have always been delighted.

When I was 9 I bought myself an Ipod.

I love it to pieces.

Any technology that I get

has never had anything wrong that needs repairing.

Unlike my brother.

I always create awesome homework on my ipod

and play games on it in the weekend.

I will take my ipod wherever I go and take photos.

   If I am lying in bed at night

and my ipod goes DING

and the light shines up

I will get up and see what it is that wants me.

I have always wanted a cool case

with a flip over case to protect the screen.

But unfortunately

I don’t have a fancy case like that.

When my ipod goes flat

I just look at it like I am so mad

but it always does nothing about it.

So I go and put it on charge and it turns back on again.
